DIFOART's framing workshop is in Seyrantepe, Istanbul. Our catalogue holds 58 frame profiles: classic carved, plain wood, gold leaf, black, white and cream, coloured and oval. Every profile is cut to size and applied together with museum glass, acid-free mats and archival mounting. Because printing and framing happen under one roof, the work is never moved between workshops.

Four criteria when choosing a frame profile

1. Width — The wider the profile, the more frame the eye sees around the work. A narrow profile suits small, detailed pieces; a wide profile holds the balance on large, plain ones.

2. Depth — Depth sets the gap between the glass and the work. Box Frame and Floating presentations need a deep profile; a classic presentation behind clear glass works with a narrow one.

3. Colour against the work — The profile colour is taken from the quietest tone in the work, not the dominant one. A frame chosen from the dominant colour overpowers the piece.

4. Weight and hanging — At large sizes the weight of the profile determines the wall hanging system. Above 150 cm the hanging solution is planned together with the frame.

In wide and deep profiles we produce custom sizes and custom colours. If a profile outside the catalogue is wanted, we source it.

Artbox — DIFOART's own design. Unlike the sourced profiles in our catalogue, Artbox is entirely DIFOART's own design and production: minimal, modern, glazing-free. The surface of the work is directly visible, with no glass reflection.

Profile, glazing and mat are chosen together

A frame profile is not a decision on its own. Every profile can be combined with: Tru Vue museum glass · Matobel anti-reflective glass · clear glass · glazing-free presentation (Artbox and Floating) · standard mat board · acid-free, museum-quality board · Japanese paper hinge, corners or full-surface mounting.

Standard turnaround: 3 working days. Rush jobs in 1 day (at a surcharge).

Exhibition framing capacity: 200 pieces per week.

Frequently asked questions

Is a frame profile the same thing as frame moulding?

Two names for the same thing. The length of material that is cut and joined into a frame is called a profile or moulding. Each number in the catalogue identifies one profile.

What is a deep frame and when is it needed?

Depth is the measurement that sets the gap between the glass and the work. In a Box Frame presentation the work sits 1–3 cm behind the glass, and the profile has to carry that depth. The result is a layered, three-dimensional look, and the glass never touches the work.

I want a profile that is not in the catalogue. Is that possible?

Yes. We source profiles outside the catalogue, and in wide and deep profiles we produce custom sizes and custom colours.

Do you make oval frames?

Yes, our catalogue holds two oval profiles.

​

Can I bring my own print to be framed?

Yes. The print does not have to have been made by us.
