Art framing in Istanbul: museum glass, acid-free mounts, 58 wooden profiles
Mat cutting and archival mounting
We cut mats in our own workshop with museum-quality workmanship. We are a manufacturer, not a supplier: the wood profiles, the mat cutting, the glazing and the mounting are all done here, under the same roof as the printing, so the work is never moved between workshops.
There are two board options: standard mat board and acid-free, museum-quality board. For work that will enter a collection, be sold, or be stored long term we recommend the acid-free board — acidic board eventually causes yellowing at the edges of the artwork and acid migration.
We use three methods to attach the work to the mat, chosen according to the piece:
Japanese paper hinge — archival; the work can be removed and the treatment reversed. For original prints and collection work.
Corners and archival tape — no adhesive touches the back of the work.
Full-surface mounting — for large sizes where flatness is critical.
Glazing options
Tru Vue museum glass — minimises reflection and transmits colour accurately and naturally. For gallery and museum presentation and for brightly lit spaces.
Matobel anti-reflective glass — glass with a matt surface treatment. Its neutral appearance reduces reflection without distorting colour and contrast. It costs less than museum glass.
Clear glass — transparent, standard protection, a clean and elegant presentation.
Glazing-free presentation — in Artbox and Floating frames. With no glass reflection, the surface texture of textured papers such as Hahnemühle Photo Rag is not lost.
The studio holds 58 frame profiles. We do not source profiles from outside — we cut and build them in house from Ayagus hardwood. Matte black is the most requested group.
Further frame types
Box Frame — the glass is fixed to the front of the frame and the work sits 1–3 cm behind it. This creates a layered, three-dimensional depth, and because the glass never touches the work it is also preferred for protection.
Floating frame — the work sits recessed with its edges left visible, and no glass is used. For fine art prints whose edges are meant to be seen.
Artbox — DIFOART's own design and production, built in the studio from start to finish. Minimal, modern, glazing-free; the surface of the work is directly visible.
Aluminium lightbox frame — for backlit prints, with even backlighting; produced in any size and type required.
Fine art illuminated wooden frame — 4 cm depth, integrated backlighting, with Duratrans printing.
Panel and sandwich presentations
Difoplex — the work is pressed between clear acrylic and an aluminium composite panel using acid-free materials, with an aluminium subframe on the back.
Difoplex with Forex — acrylic plus 5 mm Forex (PVC) plus aluminium subframe.
Dibond backing panel — aluminium composite; a flat, stable surface.
Forex 5 mm — a light, rigid PVC sheet.

Four checks when choosing a framer in Istanbul
1. Who makes the frame? Are the profile cutting, mat cutting and mounting done in the same workshop, or sent out?
2. Can they explain the glazing? A workshop that cannot explain the difference between museum glass, anti-reflective glass and clear glass is not leaving the choice to you.
3. Are the materials that touch the work acid-free? The mat, backing board, tape and adhesive determine how long the work lasts.
4. Are printing and framing in the same place? The less the work is moved, the lower the risk.
Who we frame for
Museums and exhibition institutions, galleries, individual artists and photographers, collectors, hotels and corporate spaces.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between museum glass and ordinary glass?
Tru Vue museum glass minimises reflection and does not distort colour. Clear glass protects but mirrors the surface of the work under strong light. Matobel sits between the two: its matt surface reduces reflection at a lower cost than museum glass.
Do you make the frames yourselves?
Yes. We cut and join the wood profiles in our own workshop and cut the mats ourselves. We are a manufacturer, not a supplier.
Can I bring my own print to be framed?
Yes. The print does not have to have been made by us.
What is the difference between a Box Frame and a Floating frame?
A Box Frame has glass, with the work sitting 1–3 cm behind it. A Floating frame has no glass; the work sits recessed with its edges visible.
Do you do bulk framing for exhibitions?
Yes, up to 200 pieces within a week. We plan around the exhibition schedule.
